A 500g glass Kilner jar of fragranced bath powder from Agnes + Cat — a brand created in the Lake District and now handmade in Sheffield. Fairy Dust is their name for a fizzing bath powder that fragrances the water, adds colour, and softens your skin with cocoa butter. This jar is the Rhubarb scent: sharp, fruity, and pink-toned, with the sweet-tart character of garden rhubarb. What Fairy Dust Does It fizzes in the bath like a bath bomb, but in powder form — which means you control the quantity. A couple of scoops for a lightly fragranced soak, three or four for a full, richly coloured bath. Each 500g jar gives you four to five baths depending on how generous you are. Cocoa butter is mixed into the powder, so as it dissolves it leaves a light, softening layer on your skin. Not greasy — just noticeably smoother after you dry off. The bath water takes on a gentle colour from added salts. The Kilner jar looks good enough to leave on a shelf or windowsill. Once the powder is used up, the jar is genuinely reusable — solid glass, clip-top, with a rubber seal. It comes with a small wooden scoop for measuring out the powder, which sits neatly inside the jar. This is a plastic-free product. The jar is glass, the scoop is wood, and the outer packaging is cardboard. Vegan, not tested on animals, handmade in small batches. The Rhubarb Scent Rhubarb is one of the more distinctive fragrances in the Fairy Dust range. It has the sharp, tart sweetness of fresh rhubarb — bright and fruity, with a slight greenness underneath. It is not a sugary or candied scent. If you have ever cooked rhubarb and caught the smell of the raw stalks before they go into the pan — that clean, pink sharpness — that is the territory. It fills the bathroom without being heavy, and it lingers lightly on the skin after the bath. Made in Sheffield Agnes + Cat started in the Lake District as a small range of candles and bath products inspired by the surrounding landscape. Production moved to Sheffield, where the cosmetics, soaps, bath powders, and reed diffusers are still made by hand in small batches. The candles are poured in a separate facility. The fragrances throughout the range are British-made, using a blend of high-quality perfume oils. For the Fairy Dust line, the Fresh Citrus and Clementine variants use pure essential oils; the others, including Rhubarb, use British fragrance oils. How to Use Run a hot bath. Add two to four scoops of Fairy Dust using the wooden scoop. The powder will fizz, dissolve, and release fragrance and colour into the water. Step in once it has dissolved — no need to wait long. For a deeper fragrance experience, you can follow the bath with one of the Agnes + Cat soaps in a matching or complementary scent. Store the jar with the clip sealed in a dry place; moisture will activate the fizzing powder prematurely. Gifting The Kilner jar, wooden scoop, and vibrant powder make this an immediately appealing gift — it looks finished and generous without any wrapping needed. Each jar comes in a gift box. Rhubarb is a safe, universally pleasant scent for gift-giving, but if you know the person's preferences, the range includes florals (Japanese Bloom, Pressed Peonies), fruity options (Rhubarb, Clementine), seaside (Sea Salt and Moss), herbal (Provence), citrus (Fresh Citrus), and subtle sweetness (White Fig). Common Questions Will the bath colour stain my tub? No. The colouring comes from added salts and washes away with a rinse. If you have a very old or porous acrylic bath, rinse promptly after draining rather than leaving coloured water sitting. Is this the same as a bath bomb? Same idea — fizz, fragrance, and skin softening — but in loose powder form instead of a moulded shape. The advantage is that you can adjust how much you use per bath. A bath bomb is one dose; a jar of Fairy Dust is four or five, with flexibility. What are the other Fairy Dust fragrances? The full range includes Rhubarb, Japanese Bloom (rose and lotus), Pressed Peonies (floral with vetiver and musk), White Fig (blackcurrant and fig), Sea Salt and Moss, Provence, Clementine, and Fresh Citrus. Is this suitable for sensitive skin? The product is vegan and free from SLS and SLES. However, it does contain fragrance oils, which can cause sensitivity in some people. If you react to scented bath products generally, test a small amount first or choose a pure essential oil variant like Fresh Citrus.
